Abstract

The research entitled (The Use of Arabic Letters in Contemporary Arab Sculpture) examines the Arabic letter and how contemporary Arab artists, drawing upon their intellectual, symbolic, and stylistic references, utilize it to employ diverse and varied ideas and themes within the structural fabric of contemporary sculptural works. Furthermore, the research explores the artistic techniques that emerge from the form itself, employing various materials in both two-dimensional and three-dimensional sculptures. The research is divided into four chapters: The first chapter contained the methodological framework of the research, and the second chapter contained the theoretical framework of the research, which included two sections: the first section was the historical development of the script, while the second section was the use of Arabic letters in contemporary sculpture. The third chapter was dedicated to the research procedures, and finally, the fourth chapter included the results and conclusions. The researcher reached a number of results and conclusions, and among the most important of these results are: 1-Contemporary Arab sculptors have combined Arabic letters with geometric shapes, which are considered an important structural element in some sculptural works. 2-The texture of the sculptural works varies, ranging from smooth to rough. This variation is influenced by the properties of the materials used and the techniques employed. 3-Contemporary sculptural works have incorporated letterforms that have acquired aesthetic value, reflecting the sculptor's style, culture, capabilities, ideas, and artistic creativity within the artwork. Conclusions: 1- 1-Arabic letters represent a formative value rooted in intellectual, religious, and cognitive traditions, and are diverse, linked to the cultural heritage derived from Arab-Islamic civilization. 2-The sculptor employed various themes of Arabic letters in a way that represents religious and cultural symbols. These symbols emerged through sculptural works characterized by religious symbolism and a cultural element of aesthetic value, through which the calligraphic forms were prominent
