Abstract

This study aimed to evaluate current educational programs in Library and Information Science (LIS) and measure their alignment with emerging professional and technical requirements, as well as their actual impact on employment opportunities. To achieve this, the researcher adopted a descriptive, evaluative, and analytical approach, utilizing a questionnaire as the primary tool for data collection. The study was applied to a stratified random sample of 300 respondents, comprising graduates, employers, and faculty members. The research reached several findings, most notably the existence of a significant gap between academic outcomes and labor market needs; current curricula largely focus on traditional procedures with a clear shortfall in integrating emerging technologies (such as big data analytics and artificial intelligence). This has negatively affected the employment competitiveness of graduates and limited their ability to secure jobs with newly emerged titles. Accordingly, the study recommended an urgent and comprehensive update of study plans to incorporate technical courses and entrepreneurship skills, the introduction of specialized professional tracks, and the intensification of field training programs in partnership with non-traditional employment sectors to ensure meeting the demands of the knowledge society.
