The attempted assassination of Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak in Addis Ababa on 26 June 1995 represented one of the most significant political and security events in the Arab and African regions during the 1990s. The incident, which occurred during Mubarak’s participation in the summit of the Organization of African Unity, carried major political and regional implications, particularly regarding Egyptian-Sudanese relations and Egypt’s regional policy in Africa. This study examines the coverage of the assassination attempt in the Egyptian newspaper Al-Ahram and follows the development of the event and its political consequences as presented by the newspaper. The study aims to analyze how Al-Ahram reported the visit of the Egyptian president to Ethiopia, the details of the assassination attempt, the subsequent investigations, and the Egyptian, Arab, African, and international reactions toward the incident.
