Abstract

From the second half of the 20th century, Iraqi narration formed a remarkable phenomenon in the Arab literary arena. Many prominent novelists and short story writers appeared. Among them was Mohammed Khudhair (1942-) who had taken a lead of the narrative scene at the beginning of 1970s. He uses profound narrative techniques in his stories. On the other hand, Katherine Mansfield (1888-1923), a modernist writer, uses unique genuine techniques in her works. This paper analyzes, compares and studies the narrative techniques used by both writers especially, time, place and character techniques. Both writers try to reflect the inner emotions and realities of their characters and in return of their societies.
